The Past Is Present In Ducks Of A Feather’s New Apparel Collection
When it comes to uniforms and apparel the Ducks are known for being very forward-looking, but that doesn’t mean they don’t recognize athletes from the past who paved the way. Case in point: Ducks of a Feather’s Limited Edition Tech Fleece Legacy Collection, a new apparel capsule inspired by former U of O student-athletes who’ve left a unique legacy at the University.
Launched just prior to the Prefontaine Classic, the collection features a men’s and women’s Tech Fleece jacket, each designed with its own distinct concept.
The men’s jacket concept, “Vintage Duck,” pays homage to familiar Oregon trademarks and logos both past and present, applied with a deliberate randomness that creates an effect much like the personalized patches added to a letterman’s jacket. The overall aesthetic has a vintage feel as well, but with a modern silhouette and a more sophisticated color palette of solid black with accents of green as well as subtle monochromatic treatments.
An arched block “OREGON” mark on the chest, inspired by the iconic Prefontaine singlet, and interlocked “UO” marks on both front and back will be familiar to longtime Ducks fans, while a stitched-in, jersey liner in green featuring the modern “O” and DOAF branding grace the jacket’s interior. Racing stripes on the back of the jacket and left sleeve recall traditional collegiate uniforms, while additional embroidered logos, 3D patches, and satin borders add dimension and texture to the design.
The women’s jacket concept, “The Power of Flight,” draws inspiration from the idea of leaving the nest and starting a new journey to shape the future. True to the theme, the primary visual motif features two distinct applications of a duck in flight, a larger fully rendered and embroidered duck design dominates the back of the jacket, while smaller silhouettes of a duck outlined in amber stitching are placed at the front left placket and near the back right shoulder.
Oregon heritage logos and wordmarks rendered in medium gray, gold and amber over the jacket’s gray heather exterior create a subtle yet distinctive and stylish aesthetic. Racing stripes on the back and left sleeve lend a sporty touch, as does the bright gold interior of the jacket, featuring the fully rendered duck in flight design, the Modern “O” logo mark and DOAF branding.
Collectively, the Vintage Duck and The Power of Flight jackets are designed to not only honor the legacies of past Oregon athletes but also to inspire current athletes and students to create their own legacies in sport, academics and life.
As is the case with all Ducks of a Feather offerings, proceeds go to help support participating U of O student-athletes across all sports.
